The best months are March to May and late September to November, when days are warm (around 22–30 °C) and nights are cool. Winter (December–February) is sunny but nights can drop close to 0 °C, and summer (June–August) often passes 40 °C, so we schedule camel rides at sunrise and sunset. Merzouga is about 560 km (9–10 hours of driving) from Marrakech and about 470 km (7–8 hours) from Fes, so most travellers break the Marrakech route into two days via Ait Benhaddou and the Dades or Todra gorges. Yes — Merzouga and the desert route are among the most visited and well-policed areas of Morocco, and travelling with a licensed local driver is the easiest way to stay safe. A night in our Erg Chebbi camp includes the sunset camel trek, a private tent with beds and linen, dinner, breakfast and the sunrise over the dunes.
